The 2015 North American Heat wave was a record-breaking, catastrophic heatwave that affected most of North America. The worst affected region, however, was the eastern United States, where temperatures broke records by an average of 5-20 degrees. EFFECTS BY REGION: In Canada, a new record temperature for the entire country was recorded in Altona, Alberta, with a temperature of 117 degrees, beating the previous record of 113. Much of the southern part of the country was severely affected, with Toronto getting a max temperature of 102 degrees, and a very hot night with a low of 80. In Vancouver, temperatures soared to 110 degrees, setting a new record. The extreme heat, combined with a very humid environment, the temperatures felt like 124 degrees, killing over 140 elderly people. The worst death toll in Canada occured in Winnipeg, where 172 people died when the temperature went up to 113 degrees.
